Washington, Indiana— The evening of Wednesday, May 8, donors to the Daviess County Community Foundation’s Women’s Fund gathered at the Community Foundation’s office on Main Street in Washington to select the fund’s seventeenth grant recipient. Veale Creek Theatre was selected as this year’s recipient of $10,000 for their project, which will provide funding for needed building renovations.
Making the presentation to about 30 of the Women’s Fund donors were Veale Creek representatives, Joyce Morgan, Julie Wadsworth, and Heidi Litwiler, with assistance from Tyler Simpson and Zane Meinhart. The grant will fund needed building improvements, including restroom updates, at the Theatre, located on Highway 57 south of Washington.
Aside from determining this year’s grant award recipient, the gathering provided an opportunity for donors and guests to enjoy fellowship and light refreshments, and to hear from Linda Myers, a member of the Foundation’s Advisory Board who has worked with the Fund since 2011. She noted that since its establishment in 2010, the Women’s Fund has awarded over $30,000 in grants to deserving community organizations.
Myers also recognized the tireless work of Betty Norris, who passed away in January. Mrs. Norris was instrumental in the establishment and growth of the fund, as well as serving on the grant committee. Jessica Veale, daughter of Mrs. Norris, attended the event and participated in the selection process in her mother’s place.
