Giving Tuesday was founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation. Together, they launched a global movement that has engaged over 30,000 organizations worldwide. Giving Tuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.
Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
On November 28, the Knox County Community Foundation will host their first Giving Tuesday event focused on building permanent endowment funds for their charitable partners. Organizations with permanent endowment funds held at the Foundation have been invited to join in the event. The list of these organizations is below.
The Community Foundation is making $20,000 available to match new gifts to grow the organizations’ endowment funds. Gifts on Giving Tuesday can make a double difference in growing permanent endowment funds for many local organizations.
To qualify for the matching dollars, gifts must be received on November 28, 2017. Gifts may be made online at CommunityFoundationAlliance.org/Knox or at the office location, 20 N 3rd St, Suite 301 (third floor of the Old National Bank building) from 8:30 to 4 pm.
