December 2016 Posey County, Indiana – The Posey County Community Foundation is pleased to announce it will be holding a special grant cycle beginning on January 1, 2017 in support of rural health care initiatives in Posey County. Due to a generous gift from the Smithville Charitable Foundation, the Posey County Community Foundation seeks funding requests for its Posey-Smithville Rural Health Grant Initiative. Proposed projects must strategically address rural health care needs in Posey County and aim to make a significant and sustained, positive impact among the population being served and/or the broader community.
The Smithville Charitable Foundation, located in Ellettsville, Indiana was established in 2007 in outpouring of the Draper family’s generosity and desire to enrich the lives of people served by Smithville Communications. The family continues to support the communities around the area. Each year the Smithville Charitable Foundation generously gifts to various different causes through their annual grants program. They support organizations in the counties of Boone, Brown, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Greene, Hendricks, Howard, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, Owen, Posey, Sullivan, and Tipton in Indiana.
Some of the issues identified as pressing rural health care needs within the Posey County community include access to affordable dental and vision care, transportation to medical appointments, women’s health care, access to Automated External Defibrillator (AED) equipment, and access to healthy foods for low-income families – but there are undoubtedly many more. Applicants may choose to apply for funding for projects that focus on one or more of these identified issues or may bring to light other important rural health care needs that they believe should be addressed.
The Posey County Community Foundation welcomes funding requests from nonprofit organizations that are deemed tax-exempt under sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code and from governmental agencies serving the county. Requests from nonprofit organizations not classified as a 501(c)(3) public charity may be considered provided the project is charitable and supports a pressing rural health care need. However, the organization will be required to obtain a fiscal sponsor to oversee the project and to accept grant monies if awarded.
