Annual scholarship created in loving memory of Camden Andrew Hancock by his grandparents, James and Deborah Shea, parents, Dyke and Nicole Hancock, and family and friends to recognize a member of the FJ Reitz High School baseball team for academic excellence, high level of sportsmanship, and strong leadership – characteristics notably exhibited by Camden.
Camden was a 2018 Reitz High School graduate and member of the National Honors Society who planned to pursue a degree in automotive engineering. He was active in athletics and was a member of the varsity baseball team. Camden was a very competitive and talented baseball player who gave his all every time he stepped onto the field.
Camden’s life was cut short after a diagnosis of a rare form of brain cancer on April 18, 2018, succumbing to the cancer on October 2, 2018.
Graduating seniors of FJ Reitz High School with a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) who have participated in the Reitz High School baseball program. Applicants must be planning to pursue post-secondary education at any accredited college, university, or technical/vocational school.
Selection will be based on academic achievement, level of participation in the FJ Reitz High School baseball program, and evidence of excellent character and leadership skills.
- Two letters of recommendation – one from the applicant’s current or former baseball coach (e.g. varsity, junior varsity, recreation league, youth league, etc.) and one from someone who is unrelated to the applicant and who is not a school official or Community Foundation board member but who can attest to the applicant’s sportsmanship, character, and leadership skills.
