An annual scholarship created by John M. Baughman along with his sister, Edith Powers, in memory of their father.
Current employees of Aperion Care, Bridgeport, IL, who have completed at least one year of employment with the healthcare center, and/or students who are enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing Program at Frontier Community College, Olney Central College, Lincoln Trail College, or Wabash Valley College in Illinois, and are pursuing a registered nursing degree following certification as a licensed practical nurse. Applicants who are Aperion employees must be planning to enroll in a course of study at an accredited educational institution for the attainment of their GED, certification/licensure as a CMA, CNA, LPN, or RN, or specialty training for nursing staff that enhances their knowledge and skills in the care of long-term care patients.
Selection will be based on applicant’s demonstration of his or her rapport with patients and their family members, dedication to professional and respectful interactions with patients, and promotion of patient dignity and quality of life.
- Essay describing your position and duties at Aperion Care or, if not an Aperion Care employee, your position and duties at a healthcare facility. Include in your essay examples of your dedication to and rapport with patients and their family members.
- Two letters of recommendation (on the author’s letterhead with author’s signature) – one from the applicant’s supervisor or college instructor and the other from someone unrelated to the applicant but who can attest to applicant’s dedication to patient care and the healthcare profession.
$8,000. Multiple scholarships may be awarded from this amount.
