Annual scholarship created by Schott North America, Inc. to encourage the children of Schott North America, Inc. or Gemtron Corporation employees to further their education, to recognize academic achievement of those graduating from high school and continuing their education, and to motivate recipients to achieve maximum scholastic and vocational potential.
High school graduates or graduating high school seniors who are the natural, adopted or step-children of employees of Schott North America, Inc. or Gemtron Corporation facilities located in Knox County, Indiana. Applicants must be enrolled or have applied for enrollment at any accredited college, university or technical/vocational school and planning to pursue a degree in business, engineering, environment, finance, general studies, law/legal studies, medicine/healthcare, sales/marketing, or science. Graduating high school seniors or high school graduates who have not previously attended an institution of higher education must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) from his or her high school coursework. High school graduates who are currently enrolled in or have previously attended an institution of higher education must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) from his or her college coursework.
Selection will be based on all sections of the application form and the supplemental requirements.
- Written essay (250 words or less) describing applicant’s past and/or current community involvement/volunteerism and how the experience has influenced his or her life.
- One letter of recommendation from an individual who is unrelated to the applicant attesting to applicant’s moral character and leadership skills and abilities. (Letters of recommendation cannot be obtained from members of the Knox County Community Foundation Board of Trustees or from owners, managers, or employees of Schott North America, Inc./Gemtron Corporation.)
