Community Foundation Serving Southwest Indiana Announces New Name
Community Foundation Alliance announces its new name: Community Foundation of Southwest Indiana, marking a strategic evolution after 35 years of supporting charitable giving across the region.
The new name reflects the organization’s growth, expanded regional leadership, and long-term commitment to building lasting community impact.
For President and CEO Jill Carpenter, the change is both symbolic and practical.
“Over the last three decades, our work has expanded well beyond what our original name captured,” Carpenter says. “We’ve built trusted partnerships, stewarded tens of millions in charitable assets, and helped donors create lasting legacies. This new name reflects who we are today, and where we’re going next.”
Since its founding, the Community Foundation has directed nearly $80 million into Southwest Indiana and manages more than 1,200 charitable funds supporting education, workforce development, healthcare, and local initiatives. The Foundation focuses on building permanent resources designed to provide ongoing support year after year.
Board Chair Patrick Griffin sees that long-term mindset as essential.
“When someone creates a fund, they’re not just making a gift,” Griffin says. “They’re creating something that will continue working long after they’re gone.”
Serving nine communities, the Foundation works with donors, nonprofits, businesses, and civic leaders to address shared priorities, from economic opportunity to community health and well-being.
“No community grows in isolation,” Carpenter says. “When we align resources and partnerships, we can create opportunities that benefit everyone.”
